Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service (VVCS)

VVCS staff are professionally qualified with skills in working with life problems faced by veterans and their families. They can also provide a wide range of programs and treatment for war and service related mental health conditions. They can help you identify risky drinking and provide specific assistance to help you do something about your drinking or refer you to a specialist service if required.
VVCS also run a Country Outreach Program so if you live in a rural or remote area you can contact your nearest VVCS office on a toll free number to find out if they have a Contract Counsellor close to you.
Veterans Line is the after hours telephone crisis-counselling service to assist veterans and their families in coping with crisis situations outside of VVCS office hours. Simply contact 1800011046 and you will be automatically redirected outside of business hours.
Other health professionals and specialist programs
DVA provides entitled clients with access to health care through arrangements with public and private health services and registered health care practitioners (such as GPs, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, etc). There are also specific hospital and community based alcohol detoxification, treatment and rehabilitation programs available. You can get more information about these services from your local VVCS or DVA office or by speaking with your GP.
